Wallz...

My downstairs bathroom walls were hideous. So I painted them a cool 60's surf blue. They were still hideous. Crappy bumps and ripples and nailholes and such. What's a girl to do? Rip up 60's Ladies Home Journals and slather every inch with Mod Podge!!! What a definite improvement. Always something to look at, and such delightful fashion inspiration for my daily dressing. Uh huh. Oh yeah. Then to waterproof, I mixed 1/3 Mod Podge with 2/3 water and used a paint roller to go over the whole thing. It looks bubbly and uneven when it's wet, but dries quite nicely. Now my walls are fantastic and only I know what crappiness lurks beneath...

Muu-Muu to Go-go!!

Would ya look at this hideous, shapeless column of sheer frumpiness? What a total waste of amazing psychedlic tree fabric! I felt like I was drowning in a sea of eye-scorching polyester. Muu-muus are meant to be hacked and chopped up for a higher cause. Thus, the transformation to go-go frumptasticness. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the leftover fabric. Reusable grocery bag? Rooster hat?

Yves St. Laurent, eat yer heart out!

Um, $800 for a pair of gloves? So not my style! I grabbed a pair of vintage gloves and some old zippers out of my notions drawer and commenced to sewing. I made a big slit up the back and sewed a hem, then sewed the zipper in. Pretty easy. My old Singer Featherweight sewed right through that thin leather with no problem! I used to hear all the time how hard zippers are and was always afraid to put them in. They're actually not that bad, if you can keep things straight. On the right is my version of $800 gloves, for approximately $5 and some time. (most of it to find 2 matching zippers, no easy feat)

This is Woostah. He and Honk the hen are my darling pet chickens. I originally had 4 chicks but 2 didn't make it. They have been held and played with since they were babies and so they're quite tame. Woostah lets me do pretty much anything I want with him as long as I stroke his wattles. He's a sweet boy and I plan on making some more hats for him. Excuse the dirt in this picture. It's hard to keep a hat on a moving chicken and take a photo at the same time! Plus, I'll make a better hat next time. This one I did in all of 2 minutes with spare vintage material and a cotton ball. Didn't even hem the bottom. The nerve....
